Balatro Hits 3.5 Million Units Sold (www.psu.com)

In 2022, we had

that took over the world by storm. In 2023, it was Baldur’s Gate 3. In 2024, we have Balatro.

This poker-like rougelike that’s now available on pretty much every major platform went from being a small project that a single developer worked on with the intention of making something for their friends became so much more when it arrived earlier this year.

Now, developer LocalThunk confirmed on the game’s official Twitter account that Balatro has hit 3.5 million units sold.

It’s an astounding achievement for any indie game, let alone one made by a solo developer who began the project with seemingly no intention of it ever becoming something this big.

And that’s without mentioning the critical acclaim the game has received, from being nominated for multiple awards at The Game Awards and other major awards shows to achieving a 90 on Metacritic.

If you’ve not yet tried Balatro and are still wondering what the hype is all about, check out our review to find out what makes it so special.
