FLCC Women’s Soccer Aims for Rebound Season with New Talent and Renewed Focus (www.fingerlakes1.com)

As the 2024 season looms, the

women’s soccer team is determined to rise from last year’s struggles. It saw them finish in the lower ranks of NJCAA Region III. Under the guidance of Head Coach David Campbell, entering his fifth season, and Assistant Coach Matthias Finke, the Lakers are set to compete with a fresh edge. “Our goal is to be competitive with a drive to win games,” Campbell stated, emphasizing a renewed focus on team chemistry and collective growth.

Key returners like defender Ava Recktenwald, who started in 11 games last season, and forward Laura Lopez, a starter in seven games, will anchor the team. Both players are expected to provide leadership to a promising group of over a dozen new recruits. The incoming class brings speed and strength, particularly on defense, as well as offensive pressure. This makes the Lakers a team to watch this season.

The Lakers will kick off their campaign against Herkimer College on August 28. They’ll play with renewed purpose and in honor of the late William J. “Bill” McKee, a former men’s soccer coach remembered for his significant contributions to the FLCC community.
