Finding accessible recreation areas in New York, including the Finger Lakes, is now easier with a new map from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The map shows wheelchair-accessible features at over 200 locations statewide.
Commissioner Kerri Neifeld from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities praised the map, which includes features like accessible trails, campsites, and boat launches. The map aims to help everyone enjoy New York’s outdoor spaces.
Over $5 million in upgrades were completed to enhance accessibility. The Finger Lakes region alone has over a dozen accessible sites, including the Black Creek Boat Launch in Monroe County and the High Tor Wildlife Management Area in Ontario and Yates counties.
FingerLakes1.com is the region’s leading all-digital news publication. The company was founded in 1998 and has been keeping residents informed for more than two decades. Have a lead? Send it to [email protected].
