The Seneca Falls Town Board voted 3-2 to table a motion to create a new Department of Public Works, an initiative proposed by Supervisor Frank Schmitter last month. The decision followed a public hearing where former Supervisor Greg Lazzaro voiced his support for the idea. Despite the backing, the board decided to delay the proposal for further consideration.
In another move, the board approved a study of the town’s recreational parks and facilities. An ad hoc committee will be formed, which is expected to include Schmitter, another Town Board member, and two yet-to-be-named town employees.
One key focus will be Schmitter’s proposal to relocate Vince’s Park from Auburn Road to Fall Street near VanCleef Lake. MRB group will assist with that study.
Schmitter envisions adding pickleball courts and an outdoor ice rink to the new downtown park. He also suggested selling the current Auburn Road park, donated by Goulds Pumps years ago, for potential housing development.
