Syracuse men’s soccer wins third straight over Providence (cuse.com)

Chimere Omeze’s goal in the 71st minute lifted the Syracuse men’s soccer team (6-4-3, 1-2-2 ACC) to a 2-1 victory over Providence (6-4-2, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) at Chapey Field on Tuesday.

This win marked the Orange’s third straight, their longest streak this season.

Carlos Zambrano opened the scoring for Syracuse in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Braedon Smith for his first goal of the season. Both teams had limited scoring chances before halftime, with Providence recording three shots to Syracuse’s one.

Providence equalized in the 59th minute, but Omeze responded 12 minutes later. He connected with a free kick from Elton Chifamba, initially sending a header off the post, but quickly recovered to score the rebound.

Omeze’s goal was his third of the season, and Zambrano notched his first for the team. Tomas Hut made two saves for the Orange, who narrowly outshot the Friars 10-9.

Next up, Syracuse faces Loyola at home on October 15 at 7 p.m.
