Syracuse women’s basketball (7-10, 1-5 ACC) fell to Louisville (13-5, 6-1 ACC), 72-62, on Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Kyra Wood, Sophie Burrows, and Georgia Woolley each scored in double figures, leading the Orange effort. Burrows and Wood both tallied 17 points, with Burrows just one point shy of her career high. Wood contributed nine rebounds, nearly securing a double-double, while Woolley added 13 points and a team-best five assists. Louisville’s Tajian Roberts led her team with 13 points.
Louisville started strong, opening with a 13-3 run in the first five minutes. Burrows kept Syracuse competitive, scoring the team’s first 10 points. A 6-0 second-quarter run tied the game at 23-23, and Wood briefly gave the Orange a one-point lead. However, the Cardinals ended the half ahead 33-30.
In the third quarter, Louisville extended their lead with multiple scoring runs, at one point going up by 15. Syracuse cut the deficit to eight entering the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the gap despite Louisville’s seven-minute field goal drought.
Syracuse next faces Boston College on Sunday, January 19, at noon in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
