The Buffalo Sabres jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first period but completely collapsed, falling 5-4 to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night at KeyBank Center.
Buffalo (11-12-2) led 4-0 after 20 minutes, thanks to a pair of goals from Tage Thompson along with goals from JJ Peterka and Beck Malenstyn. However, it was all Colorado (14-12) after that as they outshot the Sabres 32-18 over the final two periods while scoring five unanswered goals to grab the stunning come-from-behind victory.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 36 saves for Buffalo, who has now dropped four straight games.
The Sabres look to bounce back from this loss when they continue their homestand on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets at 7 p.m.
