Vanoli proud of Torino but sends message to board: ‘The club knows what we need’

Paolo Vanoli is proud of his team’s hard-fought 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Sunday, having been reduced to 10 men in the first half, but he also took an opportunity to send a message to the club’s directors after full-time: ‘The club knows what we need and the urgency of it’.

The Granata were reduced to 10 men after 33 minutes in Tuscany on Sunday, as 21-year-old Ali Dembele was sent off on his first league start for the club. Moise Kean put Fiorentina 1-0 up five minutes later, but Gvidas Gineitis levelled the tie in the second half.

The result has put Torino in 11th place in the Serie A standings, although several teams below them still have a game in hand.

“The game was important, we were down to ten against a strong team and we played a great game, defending without limiting ourselves,” Vanoli said during his post-match press conference, reported via TMW

“I told the boys to rest assured that we would have some chances after the restart. I had a bit of courage from the wingers in the second half and Njie had an opportunity to score. Those who came off the bench had a very good game. The spirit is there, but there are still things to improve.”

Vanoli has made it clear on several occasions that he needs a few new additions to steady the Torino ship in January.

He took an opportunity to remind the club’s decision makers of the urgency of the situation.

“The club knows what we need and the urgency of it. Surely the help has to come from the transfer market, but today we have to give credit to these players, who managed to stay calm and keep their heads in the game. We are still missing a player like Zapata, though.”
