Ithaca emergency crews faced a series of intense rescue operations early Sunday. At 1:10 a.m., local police, firefighters, and medics responded to reports of a person who had fallen near the Stewart Avenue bridge over Fall Creek.
After locating the injured individual, firefighters used a specialized rope system to lift them from the gorge and transfer them to a hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, by helicopter. Their condition remains unknown.
Around mid-morning, responders returned to the gorge for an unrelated call, leading to the recovery of a deceased individual. A final search near Giles Street for another potential jumper turned up empty.
The Ithaca Police Department requests any additional information regarding these incidents.
